October is the time of Halloween, fall, and cozy sweatshirts. Though now that I live in Florida I realize the cozy sweatshirts may be more of an indoor experience protecting me against the A/C than against a cold gust of wind. In longing of that fall weather and attire I figured I would share with you five of my favorite activities for October.
1. Read Supernatural Books
Every October I try to read something with supernatural creatures to get into the Halloween spirit. Nothing too scary because I can’t handle that (sorry Stephen King), but something with vampires, witches, or zombies. Last year I read The Promised Witch Series by Dionnara Dawson and loved it! It was a perfect October read. Other supernatural books I’ve enjoyed (though I certainly can’t list all of them) are Alice in Zombieland and the House of Night Series. I started getting into the spooky season early this year and started the Slayer Duology by Kiersten White in September and am loving it!
2. Pumpkin Carving
Pumpkin carving is a great October time tradition. While it is gross to scoop out the pumpkin’s guts it’s fun to carve it into a jack-o-lantern. Then you can always bake the pumpkin seeds if you want. My favorite jack-o-lantern face is the typical triangle eyes, nose, and smile with a tooth or two. I’m not very good at elaborate carvings, but this one is always fun to do! It’s even more fun if you get to go to a pumpkin patch to pick out the perfect carving pumpkin.
3. Apple Cider with Fireball
One of my favorite drinks for this time of year (yes even more than the pumpkin spice latte) is warm apple cider with a shot of fireball in it. This drink tastes like delicious cinnamon apple cider! I first tried this with my best friend in college and it has become a tradition of ours to have it in the fall season.
4. Corn Maze
Something I don’t always get around doing each October, but enjoy when I do is to go to a corn maze. It’s always fun to go with friends and see how fast we can find our way through the maze. I actually used to work at a corn maze in high school and enjoyed it. I think it’s so cool how they can cut the corn into interesting shapes (look up aerial views of corn mazes).
5. Halloween
Halloween is one of the best things about October! Decorating is fun (check out the pic of the scarecrows my sisters made). Halloween candy in those tiny bitesized packages is tempting (because 10 of those is the same as one normal sized candy bar right?). Dressing up is always a good time, last year I was a skeleton maybe this year I’ll be Sabrina from Cruel Adventures of Sabrina -who knows the possibilities are endless! Hanging with friends, eating candy, seeing all the costumes, dressing up, and maybe hitting a haunted house make Halloween a great ending to October!
