My Thoughts on MoodPitch

This month I participated in a brand new book pitch event on twitter! For context there are generally a few twitter pitch events every year where authors pitch their finished manuscripts within the confines of a 280 character tweet. In turn literary agents will “like” a tweet if they are interested in receiving more information about the manuscript which could potentially lead to an offer for representation.

A few of the annual pitch events are specific to genres such as SFFpit (scifi-fantasy) or PitDark (Dark literature/horror), or you have Pitmad twice a year which is open to all genres. These previous pitch events were limited to only word pitches with hashtags to indicate genre or age range. MoodPitch is different because along with their word pitches authors also include mood boards.

What is a Mood Board?

Mood boards are collages of carefully selected pictures to show the tone and theme of your book. Below you can see two of my mood boards I used in April’s MoodPitch event for my Flightless manuscript. These were more difficult to make than I originally anticipated, but I also think they helped support my word pitch very well.

My Review of the Event:

I really enjoyed the MoodPitch Event! I thought adding the mood boards to the pitch gave people more of a peak inside my Flightless world. I liked that you could do three different mood boards throughout the event timeframe (8am-8pm EST) if you wanted. I enjoyed seeing everyone’s amazing mood boards come across my twitter feed, and noticed they caught my eye more than just the word pitches.

When is the Next MoodPitch?

The next MoodPitch event is on November 3, 2022. You can find out more about Moodpitch by visiting their website here.
