I’ve been in a little bit of a reading slump lately even though it’s generally one of my favorite things to do. To help me get back into my happy reading mindset I thought I would do a post about all of the places I like to read.

Places in My House

I have a few places in my house where I really like to read: my couch, the chair in my room, the kitchen table, and my porch. In between loafing around in those places reading I also will listen to audiobooks while doing chores and at home workouts. Check out my post on audiobooks here. The porch is probably my favorite spot to read while enjoying the nice weather.

By the Pool or Beach

For some reason when I go to the pool or the beach I really like to have a funny fiction book on hand. This generally ends up being a book by Janet Evanovich. There’s just something about lounging in the sun (with tons of sunscreen on) that puts me in a lighthearted book mood. If you want to laugh out loud check out a book by Janet Evanovich, I have definitely gotten weird looks from nearby pool goers for laughing out loud while reading one of her books.

The Gym

If I’m not feeling like a hard workout, or if I’m really into a book and can’t bear to part with it even for a 30min workout I will take it to the gym with me and set it up on the treadmill and read while I walk. This is both good and bad because I get so into the book I generally walk longer than I planned to, which can be bad because then I’m sore the next day…though I guess that just means I get to chill on the couch and read some more.

The Bar

Now this doesn’t apply to every bar, but occasionally for a treat myself night I will take myself to a casual bar/restaurant and sit at the bar and read, maybe have a margarita. Honestly, it’s one of the most fun and relaxing things to do. No one generally comments and you just have a good time with yourself and your book. If you haven’t tried it I definitely recommend it!

Other

When I was younger I used to read in the car all of the time, which is what I blame for having a poor sense of direction. I generally bring my kindle with me wherever I go so I have a book on hand to read if I’m in a doctors waiting room or on a plane, etc.
