I recently discovered The Home Edit on Netflix and I love it! Clea and Joanna have great personalities and are amazing at what they do which is organize EVERYTHING. After watching a few episodes of the show I decided I wanted to try out their organization methods, so I went to go buy one of their books.

They have two books “The Home Edit” and “The Home Edit Life”, and though I read the bios online I couldn’t figure out which one would be more beneficial to buy and I couldn’t find any blogs that could advise me either way. So I went out and bought both books and read them and here are my thoughts, so it may help people with their future purchases.

As you can see from my copious amount of stickynotes both books have great advice, suggestions, and examples that I just had to mark to come back to later. (Yes after reading them I regret not using colored stickynotes in a ROYGBIV style).

The Home Edit:

Clea and Joanna’s first book “The Home Edit” breaks down their method and then goes room by room with that method. From coat closet and junk drawer to bedroom closet and pantry. It really explained how to tackle each area and different ways to tackle it. Of course, including many helpful pictures and examples throughout.

The Home Edit Life:

Their second book “The Home Edit Life” was more of the next step after you are already familiar with the method. It dove into their “low bar lifestyle” and how even doing something small should be counted as a win -which I loved. Then it dove into organizing things that weren’t mentioned in book 1 such as essential oils, pet areas, and my personal favorite bookworm spaces. Of course, also including helpful pictures and examples throughout.

My Recommendation:

If you’re like me and brand new to The Home Edit and looking to get your house to look like the spaces Clea and Joanna do on Netflix I would say start with their first book “The Home Edit”. This is more a starters guide to their method and goes room by room. If you are already familiar with The Home Edit method then I would pick up book two “The Home Edit Life” for more fun examples and attention to areas that may be specific to your daily life.

I hope this helps you decide which book to buy! I suppose I should stop procrastinating and go tackle the last item on my organizing list -my bedroom closet. Wish me luck!
