Happy Valentines Day! I hope you all are having a great day full of happiness and chocolate! I thought a good post for the day would be to discuss some of my favorite romance tropes.

What is a Trope?

First, let’s discuss what a trope is. A trope is defined by dictionary.com as a recurring theme or motif, as in literature or art. Some romance tropes in books include: enemies to lovers, love triangle, stuck together, childhood friends to lovers, forbidden love, and fake relationship. Below I will rank my top three romance tropes.

1. Enemies to Lovers

One romance trope I have recently discovered and love is enemies to lovers. This is when the two characters start off hating each other, but over the course of the book or series of books end up falling in love. My favorite example of this is in the Cruel Prince series by Holly Black.

2. Stuck together/there’s only one bed

Another trope that I enjoy reading is stuck together/there’s only one bed. This is when the two characters who may or may not get along are forced to stay together whether they are snowed in or the inn only has one room left that conveniently only has one bed drama and tension always ensues. One of my favorite examples of this is in A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas.

3. Love Triangle

Love Triangle is another popular trope which I enjoy. This is when a character has two love interests and has to choose between them. My favorite example of this is in the The Vampire Diaries tv show (based on a book series I still need to read). This trope is also seen in The Hunger Games series, The Selection series, and Twilight series, as well as other books and tv shows.

How Twitter Voted:

I asked my Twitter followers what their favorite romance tropes were out of my top 3 favorites and these were the results:

Enemies to lovers was the big favorite from the twitter poll! I can’t wait to read more books with this romance trope in it!

Hope you had a great Valentines Day! Comment your favorite romance trope!
