It’s the most wonderful time of year aka National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)! NaNoWriMo takes place every November and I have participated the last few years. It is when you spend the whole month of November trying to write a 50,000 word novel. While it is a little crazy and stressful it is also really fun and productive. I have written two novels participating in this event, and this year I plan to write another, which will make it the fifth book I have written.
I generally start thinking about NaNoWriMo in October, so I can start thinking about the world and characters and write a loose outline. At first I was going to do a story that was The 100 x Moana, but then a few other story ideas popped up in my head. I ran a twitter poll and below are the results!
The poll I ran only included the main characters first name; the voters had no idea what the story that went with the name was. The original NaNo idea was Kenna’s story and clearly that wasn’t the winner. Ash’s story is what I am writing this month! Luckily I had already outlined Ash’s book in Scrivener awhile ago and just hadn’t had a chance to write it yet.
Ash, a 22 year old phoenix, is the lead singer in a rock band called ‘Fuck the Monarchy’. All she wants is to sing her loud songs and survive her mundane day job. One night the underground club she’s playing at get’s busted and Ash is arrested and sentenced to prison for three years for slandering the royal family. When one of the Princesses makes her a job offer: work as the royal siblings procurer of illegal goods or go back to the ghost run prison, of course Ash took the job even if she has no ties to the underground market of drugs, stolen art, and workers of the night that the royals want her to acquire (It can’t be that hard to figure out right?). They pair her with telekinetic elite party planner Nior who quickly decides she’s not a fan of Ash. Craziness and debauchery ensues as these two normal girls are thrown into the life of the royal siblings. When Ash discovers why she was really imprisoned more nefarious plans come to light.
I can’t wait to get started writing! Feel free to follow my progress at https://nanowrimo.org/participants/h-l-s/projects ! Or subscribe to my monthly newsletter to find out how I did!
