Another debate between authors, writers, and readers is what is the best form of book: hardback, paperback or ebook? Everyone has their own opinion and personal preference when it comes to this topic and I’m here to share mine.

I used to be strictly a tangible book person. I liked to be able to hold it in my hands, feel the pages beneath my fingers, smell the booky smell. I’ve never cared whether it was a hardback or paperback book. Both were loved. I enjoyed the flexibility of the paperback and how you could see how much you read the book by the creases in the spine. I liked pulling off the dust jacket of a hardback book and seeing how the book looked underneath (sometimes authors did cool designs underneath).

It wasn’t until this year when, because I was going to be traveling more (before COVID) I thought an ebook would be handy and save space in a carry on bag. So I purchased an Amazon Kindle Paperwhite and have been surprised by how much I love it. Not only can it easily fit into different sized purses and bags it can also hold a million different books at your finger tips! Now granted you don’t get the feel of holding the book and flipping the pages, but you still get the story that sweeps you up and to me that’s what really matters. Though it bothers me sometimes when I can’t tell how much more of the book I have left (I need to figure out how to fix that setting) overall I love my ebooks just as much as my paperback ones.

For me the answer to hardback vs. paperback vs. ebook is that it doesn’t really matter, what matters is the story. I like the convenience of an ebook. The beauty of a hardback. And the flexibility of a paperback. Sometimes for my favorite books I will even have them in multiple versions because each one is unique, but it’s ultimately the story that the amazing authors create that is what I love. When I get published I would be honored to have my books printed in all formats so no matter the readers preference they can enjoy the book.
